QNUK Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid


This qualification is aimed at those working in an early years setting who require a paediatric first aid qualification to meet the early years foundation stage requirements. It is the benchmark qualification for early years practitioners and once attained, is valid for 3 years. 

Duration: This qualification is taught via small (max 12 attendees) group sessions over 2 consecutive days.

Course Content:

You will be taught:

  • The role of the Paediatric first aider

  • How to assess an emergency situation safely

  • How to provide first aid to a infant or child who is unresponsive, choking or who has external bleeding

  • How to provide first aid to a infant or child who is suffering from shock or whom has attained minor injuries, bites or stings

  • First aid in relation to bones, muscles and joints

  • how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with suspected head and spinal injuries

  • Recognising and responding to acute medical conditions and deterioration

  • Providing first aid to a child who is experiencing extremes of body temperature, burns or scalds, electric shock and suspected poisoning

  • Recognising and responding to anaphylaxis in children and infants

Assessment Structure: 

  • Internal Assessment: To demonstrate your understanding of the course you will sit a final multiple choice test, marked by your tutor. You will also be observed proving first aid using simulations and training equipment un order to demonstrate your learning and competency.
